Fernando Carmona (Patient): Good morning, my name is Fernando Carmona, basically taking the opportunity to thank a very important person in my life. Thanks to God, and this person I am here. Dr. Canales, I love you and appreciate you, you know the  relationship we have, uff you met me for the first time in the year of 1985. I am originally from the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua. That year I was currently in 5th grade in Colegio Palmore, and I noticed a tumor, I had a small abscess in my neck and groin. As a kid we didn't know what was happening. At the time, my parents were taking me with different doctors and friends over there in Chihuahua, the capital. Until one Doctor (Dr. Montoya) referred us to El Paso, Texas with Dr. Canales. In that year we came over here.

 

Dr. Canales welcomed us, and very kindly gave us the opportunity. It was in the Lee treviño location. It was late, I dont remember exactly what time it was but I remember that I was the last patient he attended because his Office is always packed with patients. He checked me out, talked to my parents, and he sent us immediately to Durham Hospital that no longer exists in the actuality. That same night, early in the morning he performed surgery on me to extract the tumors, and the next day was the first chemotherapy treatment. My cancer was Hotchkins, one stage before leukemia, and it was 5 years of treatment the first year it was the 52 weeks...

In that year, thanks to God that my parents had the means to be able to give me the proper treatment. It was 52 weeks that they brought me here, one week it was only one day of treatment and the next week it was two days of medical treatment. The first year it was totally intense, the second year it was a little less intense. The third year  thanks to God the Doctor told my Dad that the Cancer disappeared from my system but that he wanted to give me two more years of medical treatment to reinforce the whole procedure so that the cancer  wouldn't come back. The fourth year it was 4 treatments,  and the fifth year it was 2 times. It was 5 years of medical treatments. During those 5 years I got to meet Dr Canales not only as a Doctor, obviously there is friendship more than just a Doctor-Patient relationship.

I remember that my Father was one of those persons that believe they are Doctors. He was always involved in meetings with the Doctor, looking at the costs and everything, and Dr. Canales has the characteristic that more of being just a very good Doctor, he is a very good human being. He is always worried about his patients, how can he help them not only with the medical treatments, but that they are also inexpensive, where to stay as a patient if you are out of town, because without help it is very expensive. The medical treatments and finding hotels or where to stay. He is a person that was always very dedicated so that we could receive the best treatment possible in order to be healthy as quick as possible.

After that, we were in contact with Dr. Canales for many years so that he could check me out, until now that he got to meet my two daughters that are going to be 11 years this year and both of them were his patients already as their Pediatrician. Dr. Canales you know we appreciate you very much, my Dad from heaven sends you greetings as well as my Mom, and we will keep in touch. Congratulations!
