Testimonio - Ileana Martin
Ileana Martin (Patient): My name is Ileana Martin and I want to give my testimony about one of the most amazing persons I know, one of the persons with more values here in El Paso and in a lot of places.
About 18 years ago I suddenly had a seizure while I was at home sleeping, I woke up and had a seizure. We went to the Hospital as fast as we could, I was welcomed at the Hospital and the studies showed a tumor the size of a grapefruit, and supposedly they were stabilizing me because it was inoperable and they were waiting to see what was going to happen.
That was when my Husband called this amazing person, Dr. Canales. The Doctor arrived very fast, thanks to God he was there at the Hospital at the moment. He tranquilized my Husband and my parents, took a look at my studies, and told my Doctors "wait a second let me make more studies." He started moving immediately, you know how he is always going from one place to another. He requested a lot of more studies, called Doctors.
The Doctor at the Hospital haven't even met me at that moment, he took a look at the studies but he never looked at me in person, and at the moment that Dr. Canales saw me he said "you are very sick, you need to have surgery right now". He then proceeded to call other Doctors, and I had surgery at that moment.
I didn't have a tumor, I had a Cerebral Infarction. While the Doctors at the Hospital were waiting and stablilizing me for my supposed tumor, I had 2 more Cerebral Infarctions more.
Carlos Quevedo (Husband of Patient): When she had those Cerebral Infarctions, I didn't know what to do and I called Dr. Canales. Immediately, he organized the orchestra, Doctors, neurosurgeons, everything. The most incredible thing is that if it wasn't for him my Wife dies. It was a lost cause, one quarter of her brain was dead.
Ileana Martin (Patient): Thanks to Doctor Canales because he was the one that diagnosed it, thanks to him I am here. He called all the Doctors, he supervised everything and I was 28 years old, I wasn't a kid, I wasn't his patient. He did it because he loves his profession, and because he is a great human being.
He was there at my surgery, and was the first one that came out and told my Husband that everything went alright, and that everything was going to be okay.
Carlos Quevedo (Husband of Patient): He was there seven to ten days in intensive care. He was still organizing all the studies, and everything she needed, and the most incredible thing about this human being is that he was only doing it for love for his vocation.
Ileana Martin (Patient): I was there for almost a month at the Hospital in Intensive Care and Doctor Canales was there everyday. Every day he came to check me out and stayed there, tranquilized my Husband and my Parents. It was sincerely, something amazing because he wasn't my Doctor, he didn't have an obligation to be there. He did it because he is a great human being, because God brought him to me, because I am one of many of his miracles.
Carlos Quevedo (Husband of Patient): He is a very admirable person because of the human quality that he has. He saved my Wife, I have brought him "Menonitas", older people, and he is always helping.
